Dihubungi melalui pesan singkat, Minggu Wakil Rektor III mengatakan kegiatan Joy Sailing bagian dari HUT Korps Wanita TNI AL 2019 sekaligus ajang silaturahmi antara TNI/Polri serta pemerintah dengan berbagai lembaga dan organisasi masyarakat.

Bukan hanya itu peserta tidak hanya diberi kesempatan menaiki dan berlayar dengan kapal perang RI,  namun juga saling bertemu dan secara berjamaah melaksanakan Tausyiah.

“Ini sesuatu yg tidak biasa dlm merayakan HUT karena dilakukan di atas kapal perang yang sedang berlayar, ditambah lagi ada muhasabah” kata Wakil Rektor III yang menyebutkan terdapat 9 perguruan tinggi se-Sumbar yang diundang.

Bagi Universitas Baiturrahmah (Unbrah) kata Wakil Rektor menjadi kebanggaan dan penghormatan karena diundang Lantamal II. “Alhamdulilah selama ini Unbrah selalu memenuhi undangan Lantamal II dan institusi lainnya, ” ujar Wakil Rektor.

Selain itu tema yang diambil dalam kegiatan ini memiliki persamaan dengan visi Unbrah menjadikan sarjana yang berakhlakul karimah.

Di samping itu bagi generasi muda kegiatan ini juga mengajarkan begitu besarnya potensi yang ada di laut. Khususnya untuk membuka mata dan memotivasi generasi muda lebih memunculkan kreativitasnya dalam mengambil peluang melalui potensi tersebut.

Dalam hal ini Wakil Rektor juga menyebutkan pelayaran dilakukan mulai dari Dermaga III Teluk Bayur Padang kemudian berkeliling di perairan Pesisir Selatan dan kembali ke Teluk Bayur.

Sementara itu kegiatan dimulai pukul 07.00 WIB dan berakhir pada pukul 12.45 WIB.  Di samping Unbrah,  perwakilan kampus lain yang turut serta yakni dari Unand,  UNP,  UPI, UIN Imam Bonjol,  Universitas Ekasakti,  UBH ,Poltek Pelayaran, dan Akademi Pelayaran Sapta Samudera.
